On November 5, 2011, Bortuzzo made his NHL debut. Called up from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Bortuzzo was inserted into the Pittsburgh line-up to fill-in for Ben Lovejoy
who had broken his wrist the previous game.
