Robert Jermyn

Sir Robert Jermyn was an English politician.
He was the eldest surviving son of Sir Ambrose Jermyn and was admitted to the Middle Temple in 1560–61. In 1577 he succeeded to his father's Suffolk estates and seat at Rushbrooke, Suffolk's largest and finest moated Tudor mansion. Around this time he was brought onto the commission of the peace. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth I in 1578 and appointed High Sheriff of Suffolk
for 1579.
Hoever his extreme protestant views saw him removed from the judicial bench from 1583 until 1593. During this enforced absence he served as the junior Knight of the Shire (MP) for Suffolk
in the parliament of 1584 and as the senior knight in 1586. He was also a deputy lieutenant and Custos Rotulorum of Suffolk
bef. 1594–1614.
He then served as Member of Parliament
(MP) for East Looe
in 1588-1589.
He died in 1614 and was buried at Rushbrooke. He had married Judith, the daughter of Sir George Blagg of Little Horringer, Suffolk had at least two sons, including Sir Thomas Jermyn, and five daughters.
