, he was ordained priest in 1953. He was elected to the House of Commons as a New Democratic Party

in the 1979 federal election
and was re-elected in the 1980 election
. He did not run in 1984, when he was instructed by the Vatican not to be involved in politics.
He was the author of four books:
In 1989, he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada
