Robert R. Jennings was president of Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University
between January 2006 and March 2008.
Jennings earned the B.A. degree in sociology from Morehouse College
in Atlanta, Ga., in 1972. He received the M. A. degree in educational psychology (1974) and an Ed.S. degree in interrelated learning (1979) from Clark Atlanta University
. In 1982, Jennings also earned a Doctor of Education degree in educational administration and policy studies from Clark Atlanta University. In 1978, Jennings served as a Fulbright-Hays Fellow assigned to the Institute of Pernambuco in Recife, Brazil.
He came to AAMU from Future Focus 2020, Babcock Graduate School of Management, Wake Forest University
, where he was the executive vice president and chief operating officer. There, he managed the daily operations of the agency which is dedicated to engaging and including minority involvement in significant social, technical, economic, and political trends.
Jennings also served as executive vice president to the president for Institutional Development and Alumni Affairs at Clark Atlanta University
, as vice president for Development and Foundation at Norfolk State University
in Virginia
, as vice president of Institutional Advancement of Albany State University in New York
, and vice chancellor for Development and University Relations at North Carolina A&T State University.
As scholar and researcher, in 1999, he represented the U. S. Embassy and U. S. State Department as a consultant/trainer at the University of Naimey in Niger

. Dr. Jennings' additional public service includes experience as Loaned Executive to the Office of the Administrator, U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C.
On March 31, 2008, the Board of Trustees of AAMU fired Jennings in response to allegations of impropriety regarding the employment of his assistant and of fixing student grades. Jennings and his legal counsel have threatened to file suit against the University to reverse the decision.
Jennings on Saturday November 19th was named president of Lincoln University, one of the nation's oldest historically black universities. It has an enrollment of about 2,500 graduate and undergraduate students. Jennings will replace Dr. Ivory Nelson , who announced his retirement earlier this year.
