Its building regulations ensure the conservation of its character as a pleasant, purely residential, green community, with only a handful of small shops. Until the 1980s, farmlands covered the southwestern part of Rodopoli, while the remainder was covered by Aleppo-pine forests. New building development started in the 1990s, with most of the population now being urban. Housing development continues to this day.
