This is a text with which students of all levels and backgrounds can feel comfortable. Currently his latest version of this work has been the Music: An Appreciation 8th Edition. It contains a multimedia CD-ROM and history of jazz, rock, classical period and the composition of an orchestra, including many more facts about music and its development in history with the greatest composers and musicians in history.
In his musical training, Kamien has studied the piano with Claudio Arrau
, among others; and Schenkerian analysis
with Felix Salzer
and Ernst Oster. He has earned his doctorate degree from Princeton University
in 1964.
He is also the editor of the widely used series, Norton Scores, and the author of numerous academic articles on musicology.
