Kamien taught at Queens (NY) College. He developed the concept of the Listening Outline, which he incorporated into the first edition of Music: An Appreciation and which he has refined and enhanced in every subsequent edition. This is a text with which students of all levels and backgrounds can feel comfortable. Currently his latest version of this work has been the Music: An Appreciation 8th Edition. It contains a multimedia CD-ROM and history of jazz, rock, classical period and the composition of an orchestra, including many more facts about music and its development in history with the greatest composers and musicians in history.
