The village lies on the Nozon river and has about 450 inhabitants. The town has a famous Romanesque
church. The monastery of Romainmôtier (Romanum monasterium) was founded by Romanus of Condat
, after whom it was named.
The municipality was created in 1970 by a merger of Romainmôtier
and Envy
.
