, and won three varsity letters each in football and basketball. He was all-league at both offensive tackle and defensive end while earning all-county honors at offensive tackle. As a senior basketball player, he averaged 16.1 points and 9.8 rebounds while making 24 three-pointers. Tucker was a team captain in both football and basketball and was an outstanding student as well. He received the school's US Army Reserve Scholar-Athlete award.

He was named to the USA Today "All-Joe" team in 2003 while a member of the Buffalo Bills.

As of March 9, 2007 Tucker re-signed with the Redskins, but was placed on injured reserve after suffering a neck injury. He has stated that he has played his last down of football in the NFL and officially retired in March 2008.

He played in 42 games in his 7-year NFL career, starting 24.

Ross left Sports Illustrated and joined ESPN as an NFL columnist in September 2010. He is also the Host of the Football Today podcast on ESPN.

Starting with the beginning of the 2010 NFL season Tucker became the Host of The Morning Kickoff with Ross Tucker which airs Monday-Friday from 6am-7am EST and is also a frequent host of The Opening Drive from 7am-11am EST on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Channel 88. Ross also hosts the Football Today podcast on ESPN.com along with producer, Jay Soderberg.
