The Royal TESO N.V. is a private ferry
company operating the only public boat service to and from the Dutch
Wadden island of Texel
. TESO stands for Texel's Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming (in English: Texels own steamship company). Founded in 1907, this public company
was started by Dr. Wagemaker to improve the quality of transportation to and from the island. Most of the 3000 shareholders of Royal TESO are residents of Texel. In 2007, TESO celebrated its centennial anniversary, and thefore was conferred the 'Royal' designation on Texel by Queen Beatrix.
Currently, the TESO operates a fleet of two ships, and crosses the Marsdiep
