Governing body

The governing body is the Philippines Rugby Football Union, which was founded in 1999.

History

Like many other Asian countries, early rugby in the Philippines was dominated by expatriates, who tended not to spread the game to the local population. These included British, Australians, New Zealanders, and to a lesser extent Americans.

Nowadays the game has take up across the population, including in schools, and the military, and by charitable institutions.

The Philippines takes part in the Pacific Asia region of the Asian Five Nations

. In 2009, they won promotion from the third to the second division.
