A permanent campus is under construction in a suburb of Rumbek called Abinajok. The university will shift to its new location once construction is completed.
History
The concept of establishing Rumbek University was first adopted in February 2006 when, the president of the Republic of Sudan at that time, Omer Al-Bashir visited Rumbek. He pledged to build a university in the town, making the new university the fourth (4th) public universityPublic university

Overview
Rumbek University opened its doors in 2010, with nearly five-hundred (500) students and over forty (40) academic faculty. The university is a public university.
