The current principal is Matt Turner. He was previously the vice-principal at Ryle High School until, founding principal Randall Cooper died from a heart attack on May 28, 2006.
Founded in 1992, it is one of four high schools (Boone Co., Conner, Ryle, and Cooper) in the Boone County
School District. Historically the school's main rival has been Boone County High School; other major rivals include Cooper High School, Conner High School and Dixie Heights High School.
The school is notable for having been the site where Clay Shrout, a 17-year-old senior, briefly took 23 students and a teacher hostage after killing his parents and two sisters May 26, 1994.

Men's Basketball
The Ryle Raider Men's 2002 Basketball team not only won Districts, but they also defeated the number one ranked Covington Catholic Colonels and won the 9th Region tournament to clench their spot in the Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena. For the first time in school history the men's basketball team made it to Lexington to battle for the State Championship. The Raiders didn't return with a state championship, but they did have a record breaking season that will for ever be remembered by 'Raider Nation'.Softball
Ryle's Fast Pitch Softball team won the State Championship in 2006, were State Runners-Up in 2007, came in 4th in 2008 and came in 7th in 2010.Soccer
