The village is located east of the main town in the valley on the Busecker tal and at the Wieseck in central Hesse. A few hundred metres south of Saasen stands the main road 49 (B 49), Saasen has a train stop on the Vogelsbergbahn. There is no through traffic, because the road is located a few hundred metres. , located between Saasen and Göbelnrod about eight miles north-west of Grünberg. The church on the Wirberg was once the Protestant Church for the Grünberger districts Göbelnrod, Beltershain, Harbach (Grünberg) Weitershain and Reinhardshain. Today it serves as a church for special occasions.

History of Wirberg

Between 1134 and 1148, the Premonstratensians Monastery Wirberg composed of Premonstratensians Otto von Cappenberg, who until his death in 1171 Provost of the Palace Cappenberg Klosters Cappenberg was founded as a so-called double monastery. His brother was Godfrey of Cappenberg already occurred as the founder of the monastery Ilbenstadt.

Use and natural geography

The so-called Wieseckaue between Großen Buseck and Giessen city is a popular destination for citizens of Giessen. On the well-built roads along the Wieseck urge to Sunday and public holidays, inline skaters, cyclists, joggers and walkers. Spruce and fir trees predominate in the upper mountains, while pine and larch are found in sandy soil. There are many species of ferns, flowers, fungi, and mosses. Fish abound in the rivers who Wieseck and the little lake in Saasen. Wild animals include deer, wild boar, mouflon, fox, badger, hare, and small numbers of beavers but this animals are liveing in the forest of Saasen. Various migratory birds cross Reiskirchen in the spring and autumn. The knowest animal in Saasen is the Saasener fall snake.

Town council

Elections to the town council were last held on 26 March 2006 for a five-year term. The SPD lost one seat, the Greens gained one. Voter participation fell from 45.9% in 2001 to 37.2%. Out of 38,918 eligible voters, 14,468 went to the polls. Hesse's next municipal elections will be held in March 2011.
