Master Sadamu Uriu is the Honor President of the Brazilian Shotokan Karate Confederation (CBKS), and the man responsible for first introducing karate to Brazil. He currently represents the Japan Karate Shotorenmei, master Tetsuhiko Asai's organization, in Brazil.

Not many know that there is a person and has had great influence in the lives of all the Shihan (Master) Sadamu Uriu. Coming as immigrants from Japan in 1959, was the introducer Uriu Master of Karate in Brazil and its history is confused with that of the Brazilian Karate. Sadamu Uriu was born on September 20, 1929 in Japan in Fukuoka-Ken, on the island of Kyushu in southern Japan, located at approximately 1500 kilometers from Tokyo. The region at that time mainly agricultural, today is its economic activities concentrated in mining, steel and shipbuilding. Since birth, Uriu master seemed to take his life associated with martial arts. His father, Seizaburo Uriu, and the farmer was practicing judo. Graduated in Economics, Sadamu Uriu was faced with the extreme difficulty of securing employment due to destruction of an important part of the Japanese economy during the war. He came to think of immigration to Indonesia, following his friend Habu, which is now a university professor there. But the same Habu you talked about Brazil and the possibilities of work here and eventually convince him to try life in our country. Thus, on December 30, 1958, Master Uriu boards, without any escort, Brazil Maru, a ship of the Japanese government for people wishing to emigrate to Brazil.
