Early history

When construction on Salesian High School began in 1958, there was speculation that the school would not be successful and would close quickly, but the community of Los Angeles and the ASB (Association of Salesian Brothers) were determined to help this institution. Throughout the early years of activity its facilities served as a place where local elementary schools and the neighboring communities could hold events.

The Salesian Mustangs have put together successful sports program, particularly baseball, soccer, wrestling, football, track and field, cross-country, and volleyball. Recently, the school opened a new gym, sports facilities, and football field through the donations of alumni and associated individuals.
In 2008 Salesian's Varsity Soccer team won the first ever State Championship.
In 2009, Salesian's Varsity Volleyball team won their first ever CIF Division V championship against St. Margaret's Episcopal School

Salesian's Varsity Football reached the Semi-finals for the first time in school history in the 2009-2010 season. Their Junior Varsity also did outstanding and even managed to defeat the CSHM Cardinals in the 2009-2010 season.
In 2010, Salesian's Varsity Soccer team won the CIF-SS title and the 2nd State Championship.
In 2011, Salesian's Varsity Baseball went undefeated in league play.

Current activity

The school operates on a college prep track. This system allows the school to serve all types of students while staying true to the vision set forth by St. John Bosco
