. It was located at the terminus of stage coach line and later on the railroad 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Elk.
The Salsig post office opened in 1904, changed its name to Manzanita in 1912, and closed in 1915. The name honored Edgar Budd Salsig, whose lumber company had mills nearby.
