. The village is located at the head of a small inlet that enters Bannow Bay. The village received it's apt name from the renowned Iron Age salt mills that existed just outside the village.

Details

The village contains a shop,a pub and a Protestant church (Tintern Church of Ireland church). The majority of local residents are catholic.

Also located here is the Colclough Memorial Hall, which is used for community activities. It is named after the Colclough family who once lived at nearby Tintern Abbey
