Thus, Samir Assaf took his first degree in economics and law, with a Master's Degree in Economics a Post Master's Degree in Banking & Finance from Sorbonne University and the Paris Institute of Political Studies. After leaving academia in 1987, he joined French oil giant Total
in 1987, rising to head of treasury by the time he left in 1994.

In December 2010, Samir Assaf has been appointed CEO of Global Banking and Markets. Samir also becomes a group managing director and joins the group management board with responsibility for Global Banking and Markets.
