Sandip Trivedi is an Indian theoretical physicist working at Tata Institute for Fundamental Research (TIFR) at Mumbai, India. He is well-known for his contributions to string theory
String theory
String theory is an active research framework in particle physics that attempts to reconcile quantum mechanics and general relativity. It is a contender for a theory of everything , a manner of describing the known fundamental forces and matter in a mathematically complete system...

Education

He completed his master of science (Integrated) in physics from IIT Kanpur in 1985. He was awarded his PhD in 1990 from Caltech, Pasedena, USA . Later he went on to work as a post doctoral research associate at IAS, Princeton till 1992.

Research Work

He investigated and solved two of the most outstanding puzzles of Superstring Theory simultaneously: What is the origin of dark energy of the Universe? Why is there no massless scalar particle?
For an equation in Superstring theory it had been difficult to solve it without introducing unnatural(not observed in nature) massless particles. He constructed certain theoretical methods to overcome this difficulty.

Awards

He won the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award
