 emigration occurred. In 1997, the ex-community (now a village and a municipal district) joined to become the newly formed/expanded municipality of Aridaia. In the early 1920s, refugees arrived from Asia Minor during the Asia Minor Catastrophe when they fled from the Turks, the Slavic speaking inhabitants moved mainly northward.

Its economy is based mainly on agricultural products.
