Places of interest

Saroornagar Lake was constructed in late 16th century during the reign of Quli Qutub Shah to provide water for irrigation of farm lands. This 400 year old lake is spread in an area of 1 square kilometre. Due to the population explosion in Hyderabad after independence, the farm land around this lake has been converted into residential area. In recent years, there have been efforts to beautify the lake and its surroundings.

Saroornagar Indoor Stadium is an indoor sporting arena located on the National Highway to Vijayawada. It was constructed in 2002 during the 32nd National Games

Saroornagar Palace or Victoria Memorial Orphanage was built by The VIth Nizam Mir Mahboob Ali Khan to serve the dual purpose of a hunting lodge and a summer resort for his family. The palace came up in 65 acres (263,045.9 m²) of land close to the Saroornagar lake. It was considered inauspicious for the Nizam, who then ordered that it be used as an orphanage. On the request of the then British Resident, it was dedicated to the memory of Queen Victoria.
