). She hails from a palatial house with a plethora of servants to service her cravings. Having lost her mother at a very young age, she grows up as a very lonely person. Despite his best efforts, Kamal Kishore Bajpai is not able to give his daughter enough time. Denied a mother’s love and a father’s attention, Suhana has grown up to have a legendary temper. But equally legendary is her kindness. Everyone who has seen her grow up – her family, her servants and her friends – know her to be an honest, upright person, never shying away from calling a spade a spade. Unfortunately, Suhana loses in that most complicated game of all, love. In a flick of instinctive defiance, she agrees to marry whoever her father decides for her.

Ishaan on the other hand is a gentle, good natured IT professional. Surprisingly, for a person whose career is on the rise, he does not have a girlfriend...he asks his family members to look for a bride for him. As one girl after another rejects him, he gives up and decides that he will marry whosoever they decide is a proper match for him. They decide on Suhana. Thus, Suhana and Ishaan are wed.

But the marriage starts on a disastrous note. Suhana, who is raw from a recent break up, makes it clear to Ishaan that she is not in love with him. Epitomising the nice guy that he is, he decides to give her time for her wounds to heal. And then, something happens to Suhana. Whether it is the power of the marriage mantras or the ritual of living under the same roof, a magic happens. It starts with inconsequential things - choosing a shirt for him; packing his tiffin; or personally picking the flowers Ishaan likes best. Suhana slowly begins to discover her husband. Each new day, she discovers a new facet of her husband. Each new day makes Ishaan more endearing to Suhana. And before she knows it, she has fallen in love with him – a love which is deep and solid; a love that will truly stand the test of time.

But Sasural Genda Phool is not only about Suhana’s discovery of love; it is also about her discovery of a family. Unlike Suhana, Ishaan comes from a large joint family. Individuals in this family subordinate their selfish desires for needs of the common good. It is in this family that Suhana discovers the true wealth of living – she gains the love of a mother, of a Dadima, of Chachas and Chachis and of Brothers and Sisters she never had. She learns to never make a distinction between rich and poor, between the intelligent and the not-so-intelligent – to be equal to all and never to be judgmental.

The family Suhana weds into is where the major drama and emotion of Sasural Genda Phool will take place. This affable family is located in the heart of Old Delhi, a place where the mohalla is one for all and all for one; a place, where the women of the household bond, not just with themselves, but with the entire neighbourhood. For a girl who has spent all her life closeted in privacy, Suhana will evolve from her initial culture shock to understand the importance of the smaller things in life. The audience of the soap will revel in the aesthetic portrayal of Purani Dilli.

The story itself will unfold in the style of a Hrishikesh Mukherjee film – laced with warmth, kindness and humour – where the human soul comes out shining brightly as a true winner.

It is in the angans and gallis of this beautiful city that Suhana will discover family, love and life.

Currently, Ishaan gets a promotion to be the branch manager of his company in Mumbai, so he and Suhana will have to move away from the family and stay in Mumbai for 6 months. Will Suhana and Ishaan adjust alone, without the family? Maybe or Maybe not...
Right now, ishaan meets up with his old friend, Sona. Suhana is no longer jealous. Sona is married to Abishek, who is overly protective about her. Sona is suffering because of this.
Meanwhile, Ishwar has returned to the kashyaps although noone wants him. he is being zaberdasti.
Panna is pregnant, but Ishwar ruins this joy as usual.

Shailaja feels guilty: Ep 467
Suhana is glad when Sanjana tells her about dating Deepak. Ambarnath's health worsens, worrying about Shailaja. Ishaan is embarrassed in front of the neighbors, as Suhana does not allow him to enter the house without the password. Suhana breaks into tears when Ishaan yells at her for her childishness. Ishaan cheers Suhana up. Shailaja tells Rano about feeling guilty for being the reason for Ambarnath’s hesitation to accept Ishwar. Inder is angry with Shailaja, when he overhears her conversation with Rano. Ishwar scolds Inder for shouting at Shailaja. The argument turns into a fight. Sonali is relieved when Abhishek does not realize that the dress is new.

Ishaan helps Sonali: Ep 466
Ishwar confesses that he was blinded by his desire to succeed. He asks for Shailaja’s forgiveness. Sonali wishes to meet Ishaan urgently. Madhuri and Suhana practice their password routine. Sonali tells Ishaan that she needs his help in finding a dress, as she has accidentally spoilt the dress gifted by Abhishek. Dadaji and Dadi are upset to see Shailaja sad. Ishaan and Sonali find a similar dress. Ishaan advises Sonali to get separated from Abhishek. Sonali refuses. Sonali requests Ishaan to keep her situation with Abhishek a secret from Suhana. Ishaan drops Sonali near her house.

Dadaji learns about Ruby Kashyap: Ep 465
Madhuri clarifies Suhana’s doubts. She feels sad about Suhana doubting her integrity. Suhana apologises to Madhuri. Shailaja remembers the happy days she spent with Ishwar, and tells her family about Ruby Kashyap being Ishwar's daughter. Suhana receives a notice from the security guard asking her to fill up details about her maid in a form and submit it at the security office. Suhana and Madhuri plan to keep a password for entering into the house. Dadaji learns about Ishwar's daughter in America. Shailaja questions Ishwar what exactly made him leave her and his family, years ago.

Ishwar talks to Shailaja: Ep 464
Suhana gets very scared, thinking that Madhuri is planning to kill her. The Kashyaps are happy to see Panna and Raunak visiting them. Rano apologises to Panna. Everyone is puzzled to see an overseas letter arriving for Ishwar from Ruby Kashyap. Shailaja hands over the letter to Ishwar. She is stunned to see Ishwar crying on reading the letter. Ishwar tells Shailaja how he lost everything in the recession in America, and how his new life partner also left him. Shailaja is pained to know that Ishwar’s wife also took away his daughter Ruby from him. Suhana locks herself in her room and calls Ishaan. Ishaan reassures her.

Suhana

Once a rich spoilt girl, now a happily married woman in a joint family set up. She is also a snobby brat. The same Suhana who used to find it extremely difficult to adjust to anything which remotely went against her interests, is now the heartbeat of the very middleclass Kashyap household. So much so that Suhana cannot think of her life without her family now. From learning to make rotis, to giving up shopping, to solving everyone's problems, Suhana now is more responsible yet childlike in her own ways. Her innocence is loved by all. She is fiercely protective towards her family and now finds joy even in small things in life.

Ishaan

A simple young boy who is not as expressive as the other members of his family. Ishaan is employed in a private firm as a software Engineer and he is respected there for his skills. When Suhana comes into his life it is his simplicity that wins her. He is a man of few words who more than often tries to stay away from any confrontation, argument and fight. He handles his situations calmly. He loves his family and he is sensible enough to understand a complex character like Suhana. He gives her that much time and space so that she herself discovers the warmth of the family to adjust and discovers his love for her. Being the youngest in the family he feels he is still treated like a child and not given any responsibilities. Hence when he gets the opportunity he will happily move away for a while.

While Radha is abandoned by her family, Badi Ma hires her to help care for a very young Inder and Panna. She is distraught when she learns she is pregnant. Badi Ma helps her get through it, and as a result Radha is very attached to her. She is treated by Dada and Dadi as their daughter. None of the younger generation knows, and Inder, who was still a child when Radha arrived, even when questioned about Radha and Deepak's relationship after the suicide attempt, won't tell what parts he knows. But, the mother-son relationship grows fonder with time. When Deepak kidnaps the goon who raped her and asks her to shoot him she says she can't because he looks a lot like Deepak and loves him more than she hates his father.
Deepak	Akshay Sethi	Ishaan’s cousin	He is Radha bua’s son. Deserted by Radha as a reminder of her dark past, he grew up in a hostel, with Dada-ji frequently writing to him. Deepak, upset when after a visit home, his mother's behaviour with him has stayed the same, attempts suicide. This does in fact upset Radha, and when she goes to the hospital she tells Deepak the truth. Gradually, the differences between the mother and son are sorted out and Deepak gets to come him. He is very innocent & sweet. He and Sanjana go to the same college, where they get off on the wrong foot, and neither knows who the other really is, as Deepak was not at Sahana and Ishaan's wedding, and by coincident never end up meeting when their families interact. When they do find out, they eventually become good friends, and may end up with something more.
Inder Kashyap	Jiten Lalwani	Ishaan’s cousin	He is Shailja’s son and a bright professional. He is humorous and loves ribbing Ishaan. He is married to Rajini and has a cute daughter Meethi.
Rajini Kashyap	Bhairavi Raichura	Ishaan’s bhabhi	She is Inder’s wife and hails from a rich family. She finds happiness in the little things in life and loves doing little things for all the family members. She has a little daughter named Meethi who is six years old.
Ilesh Bharadwaj	Shyam Mashalkar	Ishaan’s cousin	He is the son of the daughter of the Kashyap family. Early in his life, his mother passed away, and Alok brought him home, when his father decided to remarry. He is lazy to the bone and took up a job only after much persuasion by the family members. He loves playing jokes on Ishaan, and jokes about everything no matter how serious. He is married to Disha.
Disha Bharadwaj	Pooja Kanwal Mahtani (There before Riddhima Tewary)/Riddhima Tewary	Ishaan’s bhabhi	She is a school teacher but handles the household responsibilities equally well. She values the family bonds and connects with all the members. She is married to Ilesh.
Panna Raunak Sharma	Moon Banerjee	Ishaan’s cousin	She is Shailja’s daughter and like her hails great courage and simplicity. Though, married into a super-rich family, she is still well grounded, and even warns Raunak not to spend so much carelessly. When Raunak deserts her and his family, she decides to play the man of the house and shoulders the responsibility of looking after Raunak’s parents. Panna's mother-in-law is mean and cruel to her and is even worse to her after Raunak leaves, saying that Panna is the reason that Raunak left. Even when her family tries to persuade her to leave her sasural, she still stays saying that her in laws need her support. Gradually Panna's mother-in-law understands Panna and grows motherly toward her and accepts that this is all Raunak's fault. When she gets Raunak back, however, Panna is reeling with her abandonment issues, and is very cold towards Raunak; she knows that Raunak is back and that he wants to make good, but she can't forget that he left her.
Raunak Sharma	Shailesh Gulabani	Ishaan’s jiju	He has a high air about himself and loves Panna. However, he lacks courage and when he loses his job, he is unable to take the pressure and deserts his family; he is soon abducted by a retired army official and his mentally disturned daughter, who insists he is her lost love Annikhet, who in reality died a few years ago. When he is finally rescued, and brought home, he is astounded to find that his mother now understands Panna more than he.
