Satartia is an American Indian

or "pumpkin patch," rumored to be due to the small gourd
s that grow around the area. It was founded in the mid-19th century and was famous for the Satartia Rifles, a civil war regiment and recruitment group. Currently there are two small country grocery stores and a cotton processing gin.

In the village the population was spread out with 17.6% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 22.1% from 25 to 44, 38.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 50 years. For every 100 females there were 106.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.0 males.
