The next year Poursaitidis helped APOEL FC achieve the greatest success in its history by eliminating EB/Streymur, FK Partizan and FC Copenhagen and thus reaching the UEFA Champions League group stage. He appeared in five official 2009–10 UEFA Champions League group stage
matches with APOEL.
After the end of 2010-2011 Cypriot Football Championship the Board of Directors of APOEL FC renewed the contract of Savvas Poursaitidis (until June 2012) as they recognized that Poursaitidis was one of the key players that contributed greatly towards winning the Championship of 2011.
In the summer of 2011 APOEL FC managed to eliminate, KS Skenderbeu, SK Slovan Bratislava and Wisla Kraków, thus entering the UEFA Champions League group stage (2011–2012) once again after the 2009-2010 season. He received recognition and special praise from the local press and APOEL fans for his exceptional performances in the Champions league qualifying matches.
Despite his age (35), Poursaitidis remains a vital and irreplaceable member of APOEL FC's starting line up.

APOEL FC signed Poursaitidis in June 2008 after the player was released from Anorthosis FC as a result from a failure in negotiations with his former club to renew his contract. In his first year with APOEL he continued to impress Cypriot football fans with his high level performances . In the end, he helped APOEL FC to be crowned champions (2009) after two unsuccessful seasons.The next year Poursaitidis helped APOEL FC achieve the greatest success in its history by eliminating EB/Streymur, FK Partizan and FC Copenhagen and thus reaching the UEFA Champions League group stage.
