The mountain is part of the Sandwich Range
of the White Mountains
. It is officially trailless and several different routes are possible. The West Peak of the ridge is the true summit, however the East Peak has the official register. The Middle and East Peaks are on the New Hampshire Hundred Highest list.
Scar Ridge is flanked to the west by Loon Mountain
, to the northwest by Black Mountain, and to the east by Mount Osceola
