The SERC was founded in February 2002, and it has grown considerably in the intervening years. The SERC maintains an extensive digital library of teaching resources, and has worked alongside the Digital Library for Earth System Education (DLESE) and the National Science Digital Library (NSDL)
to provide digital resources. The SERC also hosts the National Association of Geoscience Teachers
(NAGT) website and the website of the NAGT's journal, the Journal of Geoscience Education. The SERC's programs are largely funded by grants from the National Science Foundation
