Scotstoun Stadium is an athletics and Rugby union
venue located in the West End of Glasgow
. It first opened it doors to the public in 1915 and in 2008 underwent a huge renovation before reopening on 14 January 2010 by the Princess Royal
. Glasgow Warriors
have trained at the stadium since 2009 and will play their home games at the stadium from the 2012-13 season onwards.
Renovations involved building brand new state of the art stadium facilities housing new office space, meeting rooms, an indoor 100 metre sprint track, as well as resurfacing the outdoor 400 metre track with a full size rugby pitch in the in-field. The stands were extended creating a north stand and south stand which together can seat up to 5,000.
2010 also saw the introduction of brand new synthetic pitches and rugby training pitches located at the far end of the stadium. In addition to these, the stadium has a strength and conditioning suite designed with athletes in mind.
It will be used as a training venue for the 2014 Commonwealth Games
and is regularly used for premier athletics events attracting world class athletes from all over the UK.
It is the training base for the Glasgow Warriors
as well as Victoria Park City of Glasgow AC.
Scotstoun Stadium is also the home of the West Coast Trojans American Football Club, their season kicks of on Sunday 12th http://www.west-coast-trojans.com/
Scotstoun Stadium has their own mascot who regularly makes appearances at special events and children's parties. ScottieRoo was launched in 2011 and has since proved extremely popular with all the children.
