David Scott Lucas, born May 10, 1970, is best known for being the singer and guitar
/bass
player, as well as the only remaining original member, of the post-grunge
band Local H
.
Local H was formed in Zion, IL by high school friends Lucas, and bassist Matt Garcia in 1987. The band originally had as many as five members, but members would leave and rather than replacing them, the band just went on with the same musicians. The band was down to three members and then Garcia left, leaving just two members. They initially searched for another bass player but couldn't find what they were looking for. So, Lucas decided to add bass pickups to his guitar so that he can essentially play guitar and bass at the same time. In 1999, Daniels then left the band, who was replaced by Brian St. Clair
, which made Lucas the only remaining original member of the band. Local H has released several albums since and did a cover record in 2010.
Although the bulk of Lucas' work has been with Local H, he has done a little on his own. He has played some solo shows, mostly in his local Chicago area, sometimes even opening for Local H. He is also a member of the electronic band The Prairie Cartel
with Blake Smith of Fig Dish
. In 2010 he released his solo debut under the name Scott Lucas and the Married Men
.
