were born. As the boys grew up, they picked up their own instruments rather than have a backup band, and Scott's choice was to be the guitarist. He did most of the lead vocals throughout their career as well as backup vocals for the few songs his brothers lead. In 2001 the band split after his youngest brother, Dave, came out
of the closet as a homosexual and caused a rift between himself and his father, who was also their tour manager.
A year later, in summer of 2002, reports that Scott had joined a new band with two friends from his current residence of Bragg Creek, Alberta
began spreading online. The lineup placed Scott on guitar once again, but later live shows would reveal that he also played the organ and bass. They called themselves The Boston Post and released only one CD, an EP
entitled It's 99PM, in January 2003. After two tours, several other appearances including on Canadian national music television, Much Music, and awards from the Banff Centre
for the mixing of some of their songs, the band packed up their gear for good. Rumours had circulated before the last shows that the band were to change focus, from being a regular band to being Scott Moffatt and band, which is how most media saw them.
Within a year after The Boston Post's last show, word came out that Scott had formed a new band, this time with two of his brothers, Clint and Bob. No band name was revealed and the band did not make contact with anyone to present themselves. The only record of this project was two mentions in the Banff Centre's 2005 Newsletters, both stating that Shawn Everett, the drummer of the Boston Post and Scotts good friend, was working on producing and engineering 'The Moffats' with one t's upcoming album and had won an award for the mixing of one song. Though Scott was always careful to not call anything The Moffatts unless all four of them were in fact involved, having no name for themselves meant that they were called by that name (though misspelled).
After some time had passed with no news, it became clear that the project had fallen through when Bob moved to Thailand, later followed by Clint, to do their own thing with the Starz 2006 project and later their band Same Same
. It wasn't long however, until Scott announced on his personal MySpace
that he intended to go solo. He'd relocated to LA after The Boston Post ended and he revealed that he was currently recording for his debut album, containing his address (he has since moved), in which he encouraged fans to send in samples of sounds they found interesting, or any unused instruments they could spare. He wanted to create an album aided by fans, and promised to thank all the contributors in the CD booklet. Several rose to the challenge and sent him everything from instruments to CDs with sounds on them and were thanked in later blogs by name.
On April 10, 2006, song previews from the long-awaited album were put up on his Myspace music page]. The CD was named The Allegory of the City and the songs are all acoustic and reveal a folk rock/pop vibe that still has the typical Scott Moffatt feel. He's done everything on the record himself; all instruments and vocals are done by him and he also did the production and mixing. The CD is available online on iTunes and available for free on his Myspace page.
Scott has produced for Thai artists Mint, Slot Machine, Brandnew Sunset, Getsunova, Daylight Saving, Apartment KhunPa and American artist Cory Lamb. He also won Producer of The Year in the Thai Headbanger Awards 2008 for his work on Brandnew Sunset's album.
He is currently in Canada producing the Montreal-based band Roads
