After graduating from Yale
university, Sean and Paul moved to Boston
. In 1985, he helped create Boston's Fort Apache Studios
with then Sex Execs bandmates Paul Q. Kolderie and Jim Fitting, as well as musician/producer Joe Harvard. Sean also served a lengthy stint as rhythm guitarist and sometime singer and songwriter of the Boston indie band Men & Volts.
Slade also worked with seminal Boston area artists Buffalo Tom and the Pixies. Both bands originated from UMass Amherst, as did J. Mascis and Dinosaur Jr.
