Along with David Belle he is considered one of the founders of parkour and is the creator of free running. He is known as a representative of, and ambassador for parkour and free running (which are similar but different arts of movement) to many countries. Well known for his views on the philosophy behind parkour and free running, he also stresses the need for proper training in the basics of parkour and free running, not only for safety, but also to maintain the positive appearance of the activity in the public eye.
