Septimus Atterbury was an English footballer who played as a full back.

. He moved to Swindon Town
in July 1903, where he made more than one hundred appearances for the club in the Southern League
, before he was signed by Plymouth Argyle
in July 1907. He would feature for the club as a player until 1921, having made 361 appearances in all competitions, scoring 6 goals. He played for Leicester Fosse during the First World War
as a wartime guest.
Atterbury was selected for a Southern League representative side in 1912. He retired as a player in the summer of 1921 and was then appointed as a coach at Home Park
. A role which he would carry out, with the same class that he did as a player, for a number of years. He gained a reputation for his unconventional approach at the time, which was focused on stamina-building.
