Shabtai Shavit was the Director General of the Mossad

Shavit first joined the Israel Defense Forces
, where he served in the Sayeret Matkal
and from 1958 to 1959 he was the Military Governor of the Southern Command
. He then joined the Mossad in 1964, where he worked his way up to his appointment as Director.
At the end of his tenure, he wrote a book about the disposal of nuclear waste by the government.
After retiring from the Mossad he spent five years as CEO of Maccabi Health Services Group
. Thereafter he became the chairman of the Institute for Counter-Terrorism at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya
