Duff entered Municipal Politics in 1977. She has been extensively involved in volunteer activities in the community and was a founding member of many groups and organizations in St. John's including Cabot Habitat for Humanity, The Newfoundland Historic Trust, The St. John's Heritage Foundation, St. John's Clean and Beautiful and the Quidi Vidi Development Foundation.
Duff was appointed to the Order of Canada
on March 29, 2003 for outstanding community Service. Duff was also selected as Citizen of the Year in the 2008 reader's poll for The Scope magazine in St. John's.
