He played in only four games as a senior in high school due to illness, but still managed to record eight sacks and hauled in three touchdowns as a tight end. He was named a 4-star tight end

In 2008, McKeen earned the starter's job at defensive end in the second game of the season and started the next nine games before breaking his ankle in the Wake Forest contest. He underwent surgery and missed the rest of the season, but he returned for 2009 spring drills. Solid performer who was in for a high of 54 snaps versus Florida State, he tallied five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks for the year.
