Haku-san was born to a South Korean father and Japanese mother. As of his birth, Japanese nationality law
admitted Japanese nationality for only for the children of Japanese fathers, thus he was granted South Korean citizenship. This law was changed later, however. In 2003, he acquired Japanese citizenship, in place of his Korean citizenship.
