Shiregreen and Brightside ward—which includes the districts
of Brightside, Shiregreen, and Wincobank—is one of the 28 electoral wards in City of Sheffield

. It is located in the northern part of the city and covers an area of 6.5 km2. The population of this ward in 2001 was 20,200 people in 8,200 households. It is one of the wards that make up the Sheffield Brightside constituency.

The settlement originated in the Middle Ages around the farmstead later known as Crowder House, first known from a deed of 1402. The building survived largely intact into the nineteenth century, but was later demolished and replaced by Shiregreen Methodist Church. Other cottages were built around the farm, known as the Bell Houses and the Hadfield Houses, housing farm workers and a fork
-making industry. Both sets of houses gave their name to roads in the suburb.
