under the name Direct To You. Torstar acquired the channel from Rogers in March 1997 and subsequently renamed the channel Toronto Star TV on October 17, 1997. Torstar would later rename the service again as ShopTV Canada on April 14, 2003, in an effort of expanding across Canada.
ShopTV Canada is classified as a teleshopping service by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and, thus, is exempted from requiring a CRTC-issued licence to operate and most other CRTC requirements that pay TV and specialty channels are subject to.
