In 2004 the population was 78,060 habitants for the city proper and about 150,000 habitants for the urban area.

The economy is mainly focused on agriculture. Its population is mostly of rural migrants. The society is still plagued with major problems such as illiteracy and unemployment. Sidi Slimane is mostly renowned for its quality citrus products. It has two high schools, a public library, a downtown called "filaj" (village in French) and a stadium.
