Simone Pianigiani is an Italian basketball coach.
He is currently coaching the Montepaschi Siena
club in the Italian Lega A
. He was appointed the head coach before the 2006/07 season, and has led his team to the Italian championship in all five of his seasons on the bench. Since December 2009 he is also the head coach of the Italy national basketball team
.
The 2008–09 season was especially notable, as Montepaschi won the Italian SuperCup before the season, the Italian Cup at midseason, and won the championship by sweeping all three of their playoff series. In 44 domestic games that season, they lost only once—at Fortitudo Bologna
