The award was originally called "Queen of Gospel Music." The award went through several name changes, including "Female Entertainer of the Year" (1986), "Favorite Female Gospel Singer" (1987-1988), and "Favorite Female Southern Gospel Singer" (1989) before being named "Favorite Female Singer" in 1990.Honorees
