The town is home to grain markets which provides jobs for thousands of people. There are over 30 rice mills located in the area, making it one of the major grain markets in the Punjab region. The town is located close to, and partly merged with, Mianwali Bangla

jat migrants from Haryana
who came here with Richpal Singh Sandhu. Richpal Singh's widow daughter was married to Ranjit Singh's elder son, Kharak Singh. Rangit Singh awarded them this state. The annual income of the state was Rs. 36,000 at that time.
The 1883-1884 Civil and Military Gazette for Sialkot records that the village was the site of a school built to educate the children of Sikh chiefs. The building now functions as the state-operated Islamia High School.
When the region was under British rule
, the local Punjab Chief, Sardar Sheo Dave Singh Sandhu, administered the village as part of a region extending from Wadala Sandhwan to Kalaswala. He erected a wall around the sarai; both this wall and the mansion itself are now largely ruined.
Partition occurred during the rule of Sheo Dave Singh's son, and the ruling family departed for India. Their mansion was subsequently acquired by Mewati-speaking immigrants.
