Cristina asks several different people to check on Burke throughout the episode, but they all tell her to ask for herself. George has the week off to be with his family while his father has surgery for Esophageal cancer
. He tells Bailey he wants her to be straight with him as the treatment progresses and not to "sugar-coat" anything. When George's father finds out from the Oncologist that is the cancer had spread to other organs then they may not be able to operate, he asks Richard and Miranda to take all the tumor out. When things seem to be improving with George's father, Callie shares his joy and they kiss.
Burke is recovering well, but refuses to tell Cristina about his hand until she asks herself. He talks to Addison about it and says he refuses to "say uncle," meaning that he doesn't want Cristina to have all the power in the relationship. He also continues to give George medical advice concerning his father.
Also during rounds, the doctors meet a 17 year old girl called Heather. Heather has VATER syndrome, including scoliosis and is very bitter because of the numerous surgeries she has already had to endure from birth. She is particularly rude to Izzie, who presents on her. Izzie later talks to her about Denny and the two bond. Later in the episode, Bailey and Izzie witness Heather's mother having a heated argument on the phone. She then tells them, that the insurance won't pay for the operation because it is too experimental, meaning the surgery won't go ahead.
Izzie asks Bailey if she can scrub in on Heather's surgery and tells her that she is "ready". When Miranda finds that she has not yet deposited her inheritance cheque from Denny, she tells Izzie that she needs to do this before she can scrub in. Izzie finally visits the bank to deposit the cheque, crying as she does so.
Something is going on with Mark and Addison and she tries to appologise. It is not shown yet why this is. Later, Alex and Addison perform surgery on Meredith's niece and they share a moment, almost kissing before being interrupted.
At the end of the episode, Cristina and Burke are silent in his room. Izzie is sitting with George and takes his hand, showing that she has forgiven him for his betrayal in the previous episode. Meredith and Derek are in the same bed, Derek is awake, while Meredith sleeps with a nasal strip in place, which is not working.
