SkipDR is the trademarked brand name for the Digital Innovations
product that repairs scratched audio compact discs, movie and game DVD
s, photo and data discs. The SkipDR operates by polishing the play-side polycarbonate
surface of the discs with a specialized microfrictional material mounted on a flexible wheel. This wheel rotates perpendicular to the disc and has flexible polyethylene spokes that allow the wheel to compress, providing a relatively even force profile against the surface of the disc.
First brought to market in December of 1998, the SkipDR was originally invented by Joe Born
in 1992 while still in College at the University of Texas. As of December of 2008, over 8 million units of various versions of the SkipDr have been sold globally by Digital Innovations.
Currently in its fourth generation, the SkipDR is available in both a motorized and non-motorized version, in prices ranging from $19.99 to $49.99
