SlaughtaHouse
Encyclopedia
SlaughtaHouse is the first album from hip hop
group Masta Ace Incorporated
, consisting of Masta Ace
, Lord Digga, Paula Perry, Eyceurokk and Leschea. Released three years after Ace
's acclaimed debut Take a Look Around, the loose concept of the album is addressing the growing trend of violence in hip-hop music at the time, notably from the West Coast. He addresses this satirically in the over-the-top single "Slaughtahouse".
The album was notable for infusing West Coast funk-influenced beats with rough "New York rhyming." The hidden track "Born To Roll", a bass-heavy remix for the single "Jeep Ass Niguh", became a hit in 1994, reaching the Top 25 on the Billboard Hot 100
. The song also presaged a new bass-heavy direction on his next album, Sittin' on Chrome
. The album also includes underground classics such as; the title track, "Saturday Nite Live," "Style Wars" and "Ain't U Da Masta."
