Radiotelevizija Slovenija
announced a public invitation for the submission of songs for EMA 2008. The deadline for the submission of the entries was 30 November 2007. EMA 2008 had two semi finals with 10 songs each and one final, held in February, with the first ten qualifiers.
The Slovene National Final EMA2008 was held on 3 February 2008 with 10 songs participating. Before the final there were two semi-finals with 10 performers competing in each final. The top five songs in each semi-final (chosen by televoting) qualified for the National Final. In this final the winner was chosen in two rounds of televoting - the first to select the top two and the second to select the final winner.
The twenty semi-finalists of EMA 2008 were presented in a series of four weekly preview shows on RTVSLO, starting on 6 January 2008. Five songs were presented in each show.
Slovenia competed in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008
in the first semi-final on 20 May 2008. However, the country failed to qualify for the final.
