The Slovenian Ice Hockey League Championship is the highest level ice hockey
league in the country of Slovenia
. The Championship is open only to Slovenian teams. During the regular season these teams play in the Slohokej Liga
and the Austrian Hockey League
. The Championship takes place at the end of the regular season.
, and joined in at the playoffs. In the 2007–2008 season there was an issue, as a Croatian team, KHL Medveščak, qualified for the playoffs. As the Slovenian Champion could only be a team from Slovenia, they did not take part in the playoffs. The following season, 2008–2009, Medvescak played in the playoffs. In the case that they won the best Slovenian team would have been announced the Slovenian Champion and Medvescak would have been the league's champion. However, Medvescak was swept in the playoffs.
The Slohokej Liga
was established and played its first season in 2009–2010. It in effect replaced the Slovenian Hockey League season.
