History

Soga Station was opened on January 20, 1896 as a station on the Bōsō Railway (present-day Sotobō Line) for both passenger and freight service. It was absorbed into the Japanese Government Railways

 (JGR) on September 1, 1907. On March 28, 1912, the Kisarazu line (present day Uchibō Line) began operations with Soga Station as its terminus. The JGR became the Japan National Railways (JNR) after World War II. On September 16, 1963 the Keiyō Rinkai Railway Comany Rinkai Main Line began operations. The station became part of the East Japan Railway Company on the division and privatization of JNR on April 1, 1987. The Keiyō Line opened on December 1, 1988. The station building was reconstructed from 2004-2005.

This station is the starting point of both the Uchibō Line and the Keiyō Rinkai Railway Rinkai Main Line. Typically, however, the Uchibō continues along the Sotobō line tracks to Chiba Station
