    Helioseismology
Helioseismology is the study of the propagation of wave oscillations, particularly acoustic pressure waves, in the Sun. Unlike seismic waves on Earth, solar waves have practically no shear component . Solar pressure waves are believed to be generated by the turbulence in the convection zone near...

Sun size relative to its distance from Proxima Centauri

The diameter of the Sun is about 1,390,000 km, and its nearest neighboring star, Proxima Centauri, is 4.22 light years (3.99 x 1013 km) away. Therefore, the ratio of distance to diameter is 28,700,000 : 1, so if the Sun were one centimeter in diameter, Proxima Centauri would be 287 km away.
