First S series

 introduced in Summer 2004. The screen was a Hitachi 13.3" 16:10 aspect 1280x800 model.

It was a Centrino laptop, with Intel Pentium M CPU, and ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 or 9700 graphics.

The weight of the device was 1.89kg, and it was replaced in 2006 by the SZ series.

Second S series

Sony VAIO SR series

Like the SR, the S is a consumer-grade laptop with 13.3" screen, however the aspect ratio is now 16:9 1600x900 rather than 16:10 1280x800, the CPU is Core i3, i5 or i7 rather than Core 2 Duo, the RAM is DDR3 rather than DDR2, and the GPU options are updated to Intel HD or Nvidia 310M. The S series competes with the 13.1" premium-priced Sony VAIO Z series
